Pizza Hut turn the pizza box into a playable DJ deck

Published

There was a time when, once you'd consumed a pizza, you'd toss the box into the recycling bin and forget about. This is 2016 though, an age where such thoughts simply don't bare thinking about. A recent redesign of the Domino's Pizza box by Jones Knowles Ritchie, for example, transformed the receptacle into a subtle work of art that wouldn't look out of place hanging the living room wall of a quirky bohemian couple. Now, Pizza Hut have decided to skip the simple aesthetic makeover in favour of something altogether more bold and more brilliant. They've decided to turn their pizza boxes into actual, useable turntables.

Pizza Hut UK created the ambitious box in partnership with printed electronics company Novalia. It uses printed electronics made from special conductive ink for the controls and features pitch and volume switches, a fully functioning mixer and even replica vinyl plates for scratching. The box, which is available at 5 'select' UK locations from today, can pair over Bluetooth with your smartphone or laptop and sync with DJ software like Serato or Traktor. If you're worried about pizza grease, we've also been assured that your actual pizza comes in a separate box. Phew. Of course, this isn't the first time Pizza Hut has endeavoured to do something a little more creative with their pizza boxes (last year they turned they're boxes into smartphone projectors for a limited time) but it's certainly the most interesting thing they've ever done.

DJing is a huge passion for many of our guests so we thought it would be a great idea to give our pizza boxes a new lease of life by transforming them into real DJ decks” Kath Austin, Pizza Hut's Marketing Director
