Striking cigarette ads from another age

Published by

Of course, these days, being a smoker is only slightly less offensive than kitten killing. But it wasn't always that way. Indeed, there was a time when everyone from doctors to movie stars - even prospective presidents - were more than happy to endorse those paper tubes of rich tobacco. Looking back on those ads, it's not just the fact they're promoting smoking that amuses, it's the tone and style, which has now completely vanished from 21st century marketing. Whatever the moral issues (and some heavy sexism) surrounding these pieces, I think their vintage appeal, and reflection of another era, make them hugely enjoyable.
