Russell leads an immensely talented and diverse creative department covering film, technology, UX, social and design. Using data as a foundation and technology as a canvas, Cheil helps brands connect with people in more meaningful ways.
Previously Creative Director at Havas London. Highlights included the 2010 election campaign, creating and writing the award winning short films for Chivas Regal, and launching The Joke Appeal for the UK's leading children's cancer charity Clic Sargent.
Russell worked with Ben Clapp after leaving Watford College in 1998. They cut their teeth at Rainey Kelly, WCRS, Mother and Soul on brands including: Virgin, Kiss FM, Coca-Cola, Colgate Palmolive and Uniqlo before venturing outside the agency world to pursue a wider range of creative projects through their own consultancy Tom Dick & Harry.
During this period they created award-winning promos and merchandise for Channel 4 shows such as Friends, the Sopranos, Banzai and The West Wing as well as campaigns for clients Attheraces, MTV, Muddy fox and Emap. They also secured a two-year writing contract at Princess Productions, writing on shows including Office Monkey and the award-winning Sunday Night Project as well as developing new television formats including their own entertainment property The Big Boys Brigade.
As founders and creative partners at Drugstore, Russ and Ben championed both traditional and non-traditional advertising solutions, working on everything from an international TV launch for Jamie Oliver's Flavour Shaker, to a two-year Amnesty International integrated campaign. From online films for Napster, to a week-long mile-high sky typing campaign for Party Gaming in Las Vegas.
Russell is an optioned writer, with a number of projects currently in development with Freemantle Media's scripted comedy arm Retort.
He acts as a mentor and speaker for The Dots and The School Of Communication Arts, London.
