Published by

It was announced recently that Zooppa and Ogilvy took home a Gold award at the 2015 Internationalist Awards for Innovation in Media, which were held on March 26th at the legendary Times Square in New York. The award was for their combined work with IBM on the “People for Smarter Cities” campaign, which saw Ogilvy teaming up with Zooppa and their global content crowdsourcing platform to produce short, documentary-style videos from filmmakers around the world for IBM. Susan Westre, Executive Creative Director at Ogilvy, and Wil Merritt, CEO of Zooppa, accepted the award.

The campaign takes the form of an innovative online space in which city leaders and citizens connect and share ideas to make their cities happier and healthier places. Essentially a forum for social improvement, the campaign was a surprise success, thanks largely to the efforts of Ogilvy, who developed engaging and sharable content to fuel the campaign, and tapped into Zooppa's global creative community of over 300,000 members to help get the platform off the ground.

For the campaign, filmmakers were asked to submit visionary ideas in unique city improvement in the form of two-minute videos that shared stories of success and innovation, inspiring others to do the same in the process. 78 videos from over 25 countries on 6 continents were completed, and both companies should be genuinely proud of the highly relevant, compelling content. Zooppa CEO Wil Merritt, said; “Working with Ogilvy and IBM has been an exciting opportunity for up and coming filmmakers around the world to tell the stories of brilliant innovators making a difference in their localities.” He added that he feels the award “Is a testament to IBM and Ogilvy being true innovators themselves,” and called it a “Privilege to be involved with this important program.”

The People for Smarter Cities campaign continues to produce interesting and socially conscious material, with many of the videos providing thought-provoking insights into the way we live our lives, and how we could perhaps possibly be living them more effectively and more responsibly. A few of the videos you will find on the site itself have been included here to give you some idea as to the thought processes behind the campaign.
