ENVY Advertising use hiking naturists to promote customisable new BBC app

Published by

Hiking naturists are the stars as BBC launch a comedic new campaign, from ENVY Advertising, for the broadcaster’s new app, BBC +. Designed to provide customisable content collections, the free app gives users more control over the information they receive, whether it’s breaking news or talking points on a wide range of topics such as Books and Authors, Mind and Body, and Money Matters. A distinctive take on the advertising of an app, the post production house was responsible for five deliverables.

The campaign film centres on a couple who plan on hiking through the Brecon Beacons. Whilst preparing in the car, they flick through the BBC + app, gaining useful hiking tips amongst other relevant insights. Executed through careful timing and an understated tone, the comedy hinges on the end when the couple exit the car, butt naked, revealing that they’re naturists. Some clever angles, however, largely manage to conceal their modesty. It's all very Carry-On! ENVY Advertising also completed full post on the project, from offline, to grade, flame and audio. Working closely with Director, Matt Rhodes, the ENVY team created a natural-looking (cheeky pun there chaps) overall grade that fulfilled his vision.

Saskia Delius, Producer at ENVY Advertising, said “This was a brilliant project to work on. The storyline and the clever camera angles are top notch, and we loved the element of surprise and humour used.” Alex Lea, Offline Editor, added: “The spot needed to highlight that the BBC+ app is for everyone, whatever their interests. In the edit, we made sure that the couple felt as normal as possible to highlight the absurdity of their pastime. Our protagonists were well-cast and natural in every take, so the only real challenge in the edit was to keep things simple and allow the joke to tell itself.”
