Happy Guinness World Records Day!
Launched to celebrate the day the Guinness World Records book sold its 100 millionth copy, the 12th annual GWR Day will see upwards of 600,000 people around the world attempting to secure their place in the history books. Once again the battle to be the best, whatever your talent, has produced some stunning imagery, so as well as sharing some of the incredible shots of records that have been broken on GWR Day 2016, we’re sharing some of the best photography that has grabbed headlines on GWR Days past.
So what’s the trick to taking a record-breaking picture? Michael Whitty, GWR’s Head of Pictures & Design explains: “At Guinness World Records we take our photography very seriously. A high impact, super visual look that explodes with fun is what we strive to achieve with every shoot to make our books and our brand as visually entertaining as possible. To do this we are very particular in hiring the best photographers possible across the world.”
2007 – Tallest dog meets shortest dog

2007 saw a meeting of canine extremes when the world’s tallest dog, Gibson (107cm) met long-haired Chihuahua Boo Boo (10.16cm) the world’s smallest dog in Sacramento, California
2010 – Oldest Wing Walker
90-year-old Thomas Lackey from Solihull was flying high in 2010 when he broke his own record for being the Oldest Wingwalker. He also raised money for Help the Heroes charity.
2013 – Most hulahoops spun simultaneously
Led by multiple Guinness World Records title holder Marawa the Amazing, ‘Marawa's Majorettes’ spun their way into the record books to clinch the title for Most hulahoops spun simultaneously (264 hoops in total)
2014 – Tallest man meets shortest man
Two of Guinness World Records’ most iconic record holders waked side by side in 2014 when the world’s tallest living man Sultan Kosen (251cm) met the world’s shortest man Chandra Bahadur Dangi (54.6cm) for the very first time
2015 – Longest human tunnel travelled through by dog on a skateboard
Last year in Peru Otto the Bulldog become an overnight sensation when he smashed the record for Longest human tunnel travelled through by skateboarding dog
2016 – Highest bungee dunk
Simon Berry has managed to combine thrill-seeking with his favourite cuppa by achieving the Guinness World Records title for the Highest Bungee Dunk. This unique exercise in extreme precision was achieved using a 70m+ bungee cord and a chocolate Hobnob.
2016 – Largest lightbulb display (indoors)
Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa provided a dazzling start to Guinness World Records Day 2016, setting a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest lightbulb display in an indoor space at the launch of its annual Santa’s All-Star Christmas Celebration. The experiential light display, which took two months to build allows visitors to explore eight thematic zones from the towering tress of the Enchanted Forest to the quaint town of Herald’s Square.
