The world's ten oddest magazines

Published by

You’ve read your Vogue, you’ve read your GQ, even an old copy of Woman's Own you found on the train. But why so predictable, friend? Expand your horizons, take a chance and live on the wild side – because, for all the talk of a crisis in the print magazine business, you can still subscribe to these beauties …

1. Crappie
Okay, it’s a type of fish much desired by anglers, but what a title! Ideal reading material for ‘sit-down’ lavatory occasions. We’re saying.

9. Bacon Busters
Seems to combine ladies in bikinis with the urge to capture wild boar. Very specialist, we’ll grant you – but you should have seen the Myleene Klass/Apple Sauce special issue. Really something.

8. Cowboys & Indians
Er … we think this is for people who own ranches, like Magnum PI and don’t give a hoot for the sensitivities of native Americans. So perhaps not one for liberal pinkos.

7. Garden & Gun
Once you’ve re-planted the rockery and mowed the lawn, why not storm around the place with a massive firearm, shouting and scaring the neighbours? We hope this magazine answers that question many times over.

6. Y’all
Very much wears its heart on its sleeve, this one. Essentially, if you’re from anywhere even vaguely north of anywhere, this aint for you. Maybe not even if you’ve visited the north. Or seen some snow.

5. Miniature Donkey Talk
Whether it’s the magazine, the donkeys or the talk that’s miniature we’ll leave you to discover. Probably all three. Anyway, it’s the ‘talk of the donkey world’ apparently. Although not among donkeys. They can’t talk.

4. OMFG
Warning: please do not get too excited by the title. It’s the journal of the Official Meetings Facilities Guide. Unless meetings facilities excite you – in which case, knock yourself out.

3. Sheep!
Not pigs, not cows, not chickens – just sheep! We’re right across the sheep brief here guys. That’s right, sheeping it right up, every month. If it’s sheep news you’re after, we’re the number one for all that sheep stuff. Sheep.

2. Student Group Tour
Students. They love a tour don’t they? Particularly in a group. And thank goodness there’s an army of dedicated, hard-nosed journalists ready and willing to bring them all the breaking stories from the endlessly intriguing amphitheatre of adrenalin that is student group tours.

No. Just no.
