London Fashion Week 2012

It’s that time of year when the world’s leading fashionistas descend on the capital to let the high street know what everyone should be wearing this season. According to the 2010 Value of the UK Fashion Industry report, British fashion is worth more than £20bn to the economy, and London Fashion Week stands as the epicentre of this impressive business. From 17 February spaces all across London will be transformed into catwalks and clothes displays, with the main action taking place at Somerset House.

This year sees the inclusion of the inaugural International Fashion Showcase. Taking place throughout the week, it’s an initiative developed by the British Council and the British Fashion Council that will see 19 embassies and cultural institutions in London opening their doors to the public and displaying the work of over 80 emerging international fashion designers.

As well as the chance to see new collections by leading British designers such as Stella McCartney, Jasper Conran, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood, students also get valuable opportunity’s to showcase their work. Central Saint Martins MA FaShion Show takes place on the evening of the opening day. There are also new collections on display by Mulberry, Aquascutum and Pringle of Scotland.
