designjunction spotlight 2016: Phillip Rose of Sony Design Centre Europe

Published by

Following on from our Poolcast series at designjunction, we caught up with Philip Rose, Director of Sony Design Centre Europe. Sony Europe worked in partnership with The Conran Shop to showcase new Life Space UX at designjunction this year. The concept provides an interesting sensory impact for living spaces we haven’t seen before.

This is depicted through two groundbreaking new products – Glass Sound Speaker and the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector. The Glass Speaker is a stunning display that fills space with warm light and crystal clear sound made possible through the outer organic glass cylinder. It’s interesting how the vibrations of the glass are so similar to human vocal chords it creates a truly unique experience. And we can see the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector with multiple uses. This 10cm cubic project is capable of throwing up to an 80” image onto table, walls, or any surface you want. It was exciting to hear from Phillip his thoughts on the new products, challenges of 2016, and getting immersed in design.

designjunction has grown immensely this year with the formal announcement of a brand new hub for creativity in the heart of kings cross - #KXCQ. For London Design Festival, more than 200 contemporary brands, designers, and studios, take home to the area near UAL to come alive with a theme that’s all about immersive design.
