The Rise of AI in Design: A seismic shift is happening right now

Published by

I just hung up the phone.

It was my friend Heather on the other end.

Heather is not just any designer; she's an absolute wizard when it comes to navigating the world of AI in design. In fact, she's so good at it that she even teaches classes on the subject.

We delved into a lengthy conversation about how our industry has been transforming since 2023. It's not just an evolutionary shift; it's more like a full-blown revolution, a seismic shift.

As we look around, there's a noticeable amount of confusion about how this technology can be harnessed for our benefit and, more importantly, for our clients' objectives. The recurring question is, 'How can we leverage the potential of AI-generated illustrations and copy for our marketing needs?' While most of us are still testing the waters of this new technology, a few applications are already starting to take shape.

In response to this ongoing dilemma, I threw out a suggestion, "Why don't we educate our friends and clients about where AI could be the perfect fit for creating new and fresh visuals that truly stand out?"

If the mountain won't come to us, then we must go to the mountain.

We put our heads together and came up with a (partial) list of industries we're interested in, along with some examples to drive the point home:

  1. Hospitality: Imagine AI crafting visually stunning representations of luxurious hotel spaces or inviting restaurant environments, translating brand stories.

  2. Music & Entertainment: AI-generated graphics that perfectly capture the vibe of a music festival poster or the excitement of a blockbuster movie.

  3. Fashion/Sportswear: Unique and eye-catching designs for clothing and sportswear that set brands apart.

  4. Book Publishers: AI-generated cover art that reflects the essence of a story in a captivating and artistic way. Because we judge a book by its cover.

  5. Travel: Visuals that transport viewers to exotic destinations, enticing them to embark on new adventures.

  6. Sports & Fitness: Dynamic and energizing imagery that embodies the spirit of athleticism and healthy living.

  7. Pharma/Supplements: Illustrations on packagings that convey the benefits and uniqueness of various supplements in a visually compelling manner.

  8. Coaching: High-level metaphorical visuals that resonate with individuals seeking guidance and self-improvement. Envision harnessing the transformative benefits of coaching effortlessly with the convenience of your smartphone and other handheld devices.

  9. Wine and Spirits Labels: In the realm of alcohol branding, showcase how AI can craft distinctive and eye-catching designs for wine and spirits labels, making them stand out on crowded shelves.

  10. Finance: A sophisticated world that often requires sophisticated visualizations of complex transactions.

These are just a few examples that popped into my mind. Some of those industries we are very familiar with, some are still on our “hunting” list.

I challenge you to look at your own marketing approach and think about how fresh and attention-grabbing visuals could make a significant impact. After all, in a world saturated with images, most are recycled, "proven" ideas that barely capture people's attention.

Interested in discovering more? Reach out to me, and I'll share additional insights. Life is simply too short to settle for dull, recycled images. Right?

PS. All the images above were created - you guessed it - with a Generative AI application.
