Oliver Maltby - The Chase

Published

Paul Boag"The Chase is a creative consultancy, based in London, Manchester and Preston. We work mainly in branding but have done everything from a football stadium design to stamps. Our strength is the variety or work we produce. It's kept us in the top five of the creative league table for almost a decade now. "

What do you actually do?
I run a small team, so I have multiple rolls with many hats. Everything from tea maker, designer, office manager, presenter etc.

What would you be doing if you weren't doing that?
I have always fancied joining the army, but i'm not that tough. I think I picked the right career.

How did you get started in the industry?
My first boss was my external examiner at university. My lecturer told me they were a good company so I jumped at the chance.

What's your current favourite piece of creative work at the moment?
The comedy carpet

What do you love about your job?
There's a great satisfaction in solving problems for people.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone starting out, what would it be?
You need a mixture of natural talent and a strong working ethic to succeed in the creative industries.

If you have one Super power what would it be?
The power to predict the euro lottery would be good. But if that's too crass, being able to spell would help.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Retired???

What was your worst job and what did you learn from it?
Trolley boy, ASDA in Long Eaton. I remember scenes reminiscent of Conan the Barbarian. Me and 18 trollies against all the elements for hours on end. Soaked with the rain in winter, and sweat in summer. I quit when ASDA wouldn't let me work inside. I learned not to work for ASDA ever again.

You have already worked with some amazing brands, who would you like to work with next?
Honestly, anybody who appreciates the power of creativity. A brand that wants to stand out, and not be afraid to stand for something. I would like to do more things my mum would see.

Iphone or Blackberry?
Does anybody answer Blackberry?

Your favourite app?
Waitrose recipe finder. You might be able to tell I don't really use apps.

Too Cool for School or too School for Cool?
WTF?

Facebook or Twitter?
Email.

Eat In or eat out?
Eat anywhere.
