Guy Duncan - Coca-Cola

Published

Guy Duncan"The Coca-Cola Company needs little introduction, but I can say I'm incredibly lucky to work for Jonathan Mildenhall who leads Content Excellence here in Atlanta, at a time when creativity and the development of excellent creative work is high on the company's agenda. "

What do you actually do?
My responsibility is to develop and guide the creative content against our 3 global Coca-Cola brands through The Coca-Cola Company - Coca–Cola, Coke Zero, Diet Coke. Therefore a taster of the responsibilities that lie with me: the global "Open Happiness" platform for Coca-Cola, London 2012, FIFA 2014, Coke and Meals, Teens and Music platform. The global work we're developing with Ogilvy on Zero, and regional work that sits under Diet Coke.

What would you be doing if you weren't doing that?
Travel writing and bumming around beaches

How did you get started in the industry?
I joined the Leo Burnett grad scheme in London many moons ago and worked on the advertising and design side prior to joining Coca-Cola.

What's your current favourite piece of creative work at the moment?
Nike "Write the Future" has been my favourite recent piece of work for some time

What do you love about your job?
The differing ways to develop excellent content these days is exciting to me: working directly with photographers, directors; collaborating with different creative industries; working with our consumer-fans; and developing work through our roster of rock-star agencies.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone starting out, what would it be?
Have fun with people that you like and respect…

If you have one Super power what would it be?
Always wanted to fly ever since seeing Superman I

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A reviewer of films – being paid to watch film after film after film would be heaven.

What was your worst job and what did you learn from it?
I had a Saturday job in a butcher (I know – it still surprises me) – and used to get up and put the scraps of meat through the mince machine at 5am in the morning. What did I learn? Don't work with dead animals.

You have already worked with some amazing brands, who would you like to work with next?
I can't think about "what next" - having too much fun.

Iphone or Blackberry?
I have both.

Your favourite app?
Flipboard

Too Cool for School or too School for Cool?
School for Cool

Facebook or Twitter?
Twitter (hardly have any following though)

Eat In or eat out?
Eat out. Atlanta has an amazing restaurant scene.
