Cannes Lions 2017: The influence of imagery with Paul Foster

We took a break from the busy, bustling crowds on the Croisette and sat down with Paul Foster, Senior Director, Creative Content at Getty Images to talk about the 20th Year of Young Lions and imagery at Havas Cafe.

Paul believes in the power of recapturing stereotypes and using imagery to challenge stereotypes that prevail in society. He describes the continuous evolution of crowdsourcing as an immense influence on imagery.

More and more images are being taken on smartphones and as a result, we are faced with a shift in trends in imagery. He suggests that advertising must use imagery that audiences respond to. With splintered and diverse audience around the world, Paul discusses that we are faced with geographical and cultural challenges, and the biggest of those challenges being the mindset of Gen Z.
