Art Sponge

Published

When did you start out blogging?
Back in 2009.

How did you choose your blog name?
I thought of symbolically 'absorbing' art from around the web. Thus, Art Sponge.

What's it all about and why?
It's about finding great visual art from hardly known artists and trying to spread the word. That includes photographers, painters, sculptors, illustrators, designers, doodlers... basically any artworks I find inspiring or compelling in a way that sticks out from the rest. The idea is to help out creatives who deserve more attention as well as inspire visual art appreciators. On a personal level it's also helped me make great connections in the field.

What do you do when you're not blogging?
Hang with friends and family, play and experiment with things or materials, listen to and share music. I try to have as many varied experiences as I can, usually involving a personal challenge of some kind.

If you could be in one place in the world right now, where would it be?
Wherever all my friends are, and since they're everywhere I guess I'd love to be everywhere at once. But my home at the moment is in Berlin, and I love being there.

Who or what is your main inspiration?
Most things surrounding me on a daily basis inspire me, including the stuff I see on the Internet of course. It requires attentiveness though, in order to absorb inspiring things and integrate it into my own work. People inspire me as well, but more on a motivational level, if I see someone succeeding after working tirelessly for ages, it gives me great energy to keep going.
