We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. As the link between sellers and buyers, retail and head office, our retail operations team is the cog that keeps things running. With teams focused on store facing, labour, transformation, online, delivery and contact centre work, we touch almost every part of the business.

It’s an incredibly fast-paced environment where you need to pivot not just daily, but often hourly. So while we plan all we can, it’s vital that we all think outside our job descriptions and look to optimise and improve how we do everything. There’s also a real team ethos. After all, it’s people like you who are going to truly transform this part of the business.

At Sainsbury’s we believe that the customer should be at the heart of everything we do.

Customer Experience’s vision is to create the easiest, most enjoyable experiences that better serve our customers’ ever-changing needs. We work across a range of services, products, touchpoints and tools to deliver distinctive, integrated, and consistent experiences for our customers and colleagues across Sainsbury’s Group (which includes Sainsbury’s Food, Argos, Bank, Nectar, Tu and Habitat).

We drive brilliant experiences across all our brands in-store and online, operating in agile teams and squads, working seamlessly with teams right across the business to make the most of the exceptional knowledge, insight and talent we have.

As a Senior Content Designer you’ll lead on concepts and solutions for Sainsbury’s products, services, propositions and experiences. This may include our transactional and non-transactional websites, apps, self-service tills, loyalty propositions – or new in-store concepts and services that need to be explored, defined and developed.

You will work in an agile, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams and stakeholders and will need to feel comfortable working in product teams. You will approach design inclusively and use insights and evidence to back-up your ideas, plan and structure, and deliver your work to turn complex challenges into easy, enjoyable experiences for our customers and colleagues. You'll champion the practice of content design as we look to mature and grow our capability within our experience community.

As a Senior Content Designer, you know that content is fundamental to great experiences. At Sainsbury’s we know that too. That’s why you’ll work across customer journeys, with the freedom to focus on what can make the most difference for customers.

You’ll be obsessive about plain English and usability, so we give you the tools to make sure you’re answering user needs – whether that’s running your own remote usability studies or jumping into Figma to edit prototypes. You’ll be a key voice in cross-functional teams, partnering with Experience Designers, Researchers, End-to-End Designers and Engineers. And you’ll work on ground-breaking new projects that combine physical and digital shopping.

The Content Design team is small but mighty, so a key part of the role will be scaling your impact. You’ll own our content design standards and guidelines, and as an ambassador for content design, you’ll upskill and inspire others in the team with training and talks.

This is a role for someone curious, adaptable, and above all, single-minded about designing amazing customer experiences.

  • A good level of Figma skills
  • Knowledge of best practices and emerging digital and retail technologies and trends
  • Wide range of experience in content design practices
  • Methods and practices of usability research and confidence in conducting research and interpreting results
  • Ability to demonstrate the behavioural competencies of this role, including initiative, flexibility, influencing, negotiating, strong communication skills and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • An outstanding content design portfolio, showcasing your talent, skills, process and experience
  • Proactive collaboration with the Head of Experience Design on design strategy
  • Proactive collaboration with project teams, the design community and senior stakeholders alike
  • Ability to manage multiple, changing priorities, and work with diverse personalities and complex dynamics
