PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Based in BBC Bristol, Whiteladies Road, you will bring your passion and experience of audio production, as well as knowledge of arts and books, to be part of a team making a wide range of readings, arts and factual output for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, BBC World Service and BBC Sounds.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM:

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • To produce content for our readings, arts and factual strands and ad hoc features on a variety of platforms, working closely with other members of the BBC Audio Bristol team
  • To research and book guests, and provide briefing notes and script outlines for presenters, primarily for A Good Read
  • To arrange and oversee studio and on-location recordings
  • To work closely with both regular and freelance presenters
  • To oversee the edit, post-production and delivery of our programmes

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrable experience of producing radio programmes or podcasts
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the literature and arts worlds and experience of writing clear and concise material for briefs, scripts or digital platforms
  • Experience of working closely with presenters in a broadcast environment
  • Ability to develop creative ideas, which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment
  • Effective planning and organising skills. Ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.

DESIRABLE:

  • A knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and other compliance policies, or the desire to glean this knowledge quickly
  • An understanding of the importance of the BBC's values in accuracy and impartiality
  • Familiarity with BBC editing software such as Reaper, Sadie or Descript (or similar tools) and ability to use IT proficiently, including a range of software packages
  • Familiarity with research techniques and sources for the verification of the accuracy of material.
  • Experience of influencing, negotiating and communicating effectively

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
