About me

I run Bonobo & Co, a Birmingham marketing and growth consultancy for founder-led and PE-backed businesses whose growth has outrun their marketing. I work as a fractional CMO - part-time and board-level - or on one-off projects, with a small network of trusted specialists brought in when the work needs them.

Before that, I spent 25 years building agencies. I co-founded Big Cat in Birmingham in 2000 with Nick Morgan, and grew it into one of the Midlands' leading independent agencies - integrated, commercial and channel-agnostic, with every channel working together rather than in silos. In 2022 we merged to co-found Leopard Co, where I was first co-CEO and then Chief Marketing Officer until September 2026.

Along the way: a long partnership with a multi-brand restaurant group as it grew from £8m to £49m turnover, and the launch of a £150m city-centre destination that was 95% let by opening day.

I care about marketing that works, not marketing that looks busy. That means evidence over instinct: I developed CATERS, a behavioural framework, with Richard Shotton, and ran a five-year research collaboration with the University of Birmingham on how figurative language works in advertising. These days I also spend a lot of time on how brands get found in AI search.

I speak and run training on marketing effectiveness, behavioural science and AI - at BrightonSEO, the West Midlands Business Festival, Birmingham Tech Week and on university campuses - and run a nine-session growth marketing programme for marketing teams.
