About me

My name is Zahra Warsame a recent graduate from the BA (Hons) Graphic Arts (Graphic

Design) course at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.

As a designer my work is inherently focused on the power of visual communication. It particularly

utilises information design to ease the accessibility of information. This subsequently influenced

both my thesis and final major project. My thesis investigated the importance of analytical and

creative thinking in information design and the importance of clarity of information to ensure a

positive user-friendly experience. For my final major project I explored the relationship between

science and design using human anatomy as my subject matter, I created a visual system to

communicate key skeletal information. This project required the analysis of a large amount

of information therefore I adopted a methodological process throughout all stages this included

research, analysis, concept development and pictogram development. I maintained an equally

focused process through the formation of my publication with great emphasis on the application

of the visual system and typographic standards.

During my time at university I was an active part of the universities community. This included

taking part in the university magazine (Wessex Scene) assisting in establishing Winchester School

of Art as an essential part in development of the publication. For the 2013 Insitu exhibition at the

Winchester Gallery, I was team leader of the promotion committee that focused on fundraising

activities in which we successful exceeded our target and therefore were able to fully fund the

exhibition. The team leader role also included organisation and management of both offline and

online promotion activities. During my third year I took part in designing the Winchester School

of Art London degree show catalogue in Brixton East as part of the design team. The success

of this project, which was highly commended at the Antalis annual awards 2014 was a great

testament to teamwork that is focused on achieving the best possible result.

I'm proficient in Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
