About Yvonne
I have recently finished my final year at University, studying for a MA in Design Innovation, specializing in Graphic Design and Textile Design. I have a strong interest for Photographic and Graphic manipulation, as well as branding and advertising. I am keen to start a career within this related area of Design, which will hopefully push my own ideas.
Previous to my MA course, I studied for a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and Photography, which covered a wide range of modules that included me to extend my technical skills of Photography such as working in the Photographic studio in the University, and using the specific lighting equipment, which I hadn't had a chance of using before. Also, the course has led me to widen my skills further on many computer design related programs, such as: Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Illustrator CS5. I look forward to developing my career as a Graphic Designer with a successful company such as your own, which would enable me to develop my skills further.
As well as this, a project that I very much enjoyed on the BA course was designing and producing an Annual report for a company of our choice. I decided to choose Laura Ashley, as pattern always interests me, and this was a perfect choice to choose. I developed a new creative format for the financial information to be displayed, where Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator assisted me with designing the page layouts. Also, online page spreads of these designs were also created to see how they would appear on the website.
My MA Design Innovation course has also helped push and develop my skills even further, which has led me to work on a variety of Design briefs that I hadn't had the opportunity of working on before. Live briefs such as designing a new 'awareness' campaign to celebrate 25 years of the HIV and AIDs charity 'LASS' in Leicester was a great experience to try something new and innovative. The charity then selected 5 of their favourite designs out of the group, which they thought had potential. I was one of the few that were lucky enough to pitch my idea to them, which helped with my presentation skills.
Referring to the CV enclosed, I have also worked as an Architectural assistant for a local company: Ace Design. This has allowed me to use my Photography, and extend my skills by taking photographs on building sites and of residents' homes. It also gave me an opportunity to test my web designing skills by creating a website for the firm. I have also had part-time experience working in a café. This has allowed me to gain high organization and time-management skills, together with working as part of a team.
I believe that the skills and strengths I have developed during my education, and more specifically my degree course, together with my abilities gained during part-time work outside of education, will provide an excellent base for making an effective contribution to your company.
