About me

To who it may concern,

I am writing in response to your company's advertisement for a Surface pattern designer, based in Corby.

I currently work as a Graphic Designer and Product Designer for a Pet Product manufacturer in Leicester.

The role has led me to grow and expand on my design skills, where I deliver initial product design from concept skethes through final design and delivery to market, including sourcing from the Far East, packaging, branding, and POS.

As part of a design team, I work to meet tight deadlines, which requires organisation and detailed planning to ensure new ranges and products are delivered on time and in budget.

Working in a fast paced environment allows me to test my skills on project and time management where several projects are worked on constantly.

Moodboards are created as well as careful market research is undertaken to pet stores, garden centres and exhibitions to make sure up and coming trends are noted and challenge current competitors designs.

As well as product design for the company, I am in charge of three annual catalogues - two for HappyPet and one for our reptile company, Komodo. New products are photographed in house by myself and updated to highlight our new ranges and ideas.

Branding and packaging design is another main focus of the job where cutter guides are designed in house to make sure the design is fitted to scale with the correct pantone colours etc.

Creating new designs such as pattern designing is another main interest of the job, as I start with initial ideas then bring them to screen digitally where I manipulate the scale and colour of the patterns. The patterns are mainly used for new fabric designs on pet products such as - bedding, plush toys, and also used on the packaging.

Emailers, website banners and monthly campaigns/advertisements are also designed to make sure we are constantly updated with the current news and products.

Through-out my role I use a variety of programs including Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Adobe Indesign CS6, and Google SketchUp.

Previous to this, I worked as a Graphic Designer for an online Curtain and Blind company based in Nottingham. The role led me to style props and create visual mood boards to help photograph room sets, which highlighted current trends and help advertise the main product. Exploring and examining the market amongst other competitors was another main focus of the job, as it was great investigating current fashions.

The role encompassed photographing and editing room sets using Photoshop, which helped expand my skills and tested my ability to work to tight deadlines. I used a variety of programs during the job including Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Capture One, and textile surface pattern software Pointcarre. As well as this, regarding to the job role, I am a conscientious worker, who takes pride in my work and pays extreme attention to detail and is willing to learn more design.

Regards, Yvonne Nowak
