About me
Since I was young, I have had a deep love for textiles, and the larger idea of creating something out of nothing. In my teenage years I thought that fashion was what I wanted to do, and I put all my energy into achieving that goal. I loved fashion at first, and I had a lot of success in that field, but as my studies continued, I quickly came to realize that fashion as a career was not for me. I recognized that the I found a lot more joy in the fabric itself, along with the history behind fashion and art.
I still remember clear as day my first digital fashion class. For the first project we could make our own patterns for the clothes that we were making. In the blink of an eye, the passion and happiness out of creating something filled me once again. I was still stuck in fashion, but suddenly it seemed like there might be something better for me out there.
Before I came to S.C.A.D., I did not know that Fibers was offered as a degree. One day one of my Teacher's Assistants took me aside and told me that my work looked like it belonged in the Fibers department. I got curious and tried to find more information about it. The first time I walked into the major hall, it was like a light bulb went off, I was home.
That was three years ago. Since that day I have put every little piece of me into my work. I let my imagination run free; I explore and experiment and fail and try again until I find something that works. Fibers has helped me to embrace nature and explore the depths of human emotion to find inspiration for my work. It has changed the way that I think, the way that I draw inspiration to create art. But most importantly, it has filled a young woman with the hope and joy and fulfillment that a little girl dreamed of long ago. That is the reason that I love fabrics and that is the reason that I want to work with them for the rest of my life.
