About me
Will La Trobe-Bateman is a partner and lead designer at The Timber Frame Co Ltd.
His early career was as a set designer and builder in film and television, working predominantly for the BBC and Aardman animations. This included roles on family favourites such as Wallace & Gromit and Robbie the Reindeer. At this time he was involved in developing digital workflows, rapid prototyping and CNC manufacturing.
A passion for structure and a desire to develop as a craftsman led to a career change through an opportunity to work at the oak framing company Carpenter Oak and Woodland - a starting point for so many in the UK framing industry.
While developing as a traditional frame designer, Will was very involved in the timber engineering side of the business and also spearheaded the move to 3D CAD. After two years Will became the Senior Designer, leading the team on Traditional Carpentry, Timber Engineering, Conservation and Restoration.
With a growing family, an opportunity to work closer to home with the Timber Frame Company came at the perfect time. Leading the design team, the role includes business development and consolidating good design at the center of a very capable and experienced team of carpenters. Will is also developing the timber engineering side of the business, placing TTFC at the forefront of English framing companies working with new materials and processes.
