Obviously we’re keen to encourage our talented young creatives to stay in the North East. And after reading this recent Guardian article about the influx of 20-somethings migrating to the south, we thought it was a good time to have our say. While the bright lights of London seem too enticing for a lot of graduates, we're still firm believers that Newcastle has got a lot to offer.
We've got nothing against the Big Smoke, but we're proud of where we come from and want to do our bit to help create opportunities here. That's exactly why Precept started Shift, because without being able to gain experience working in the creative industry, how are young graduates going to find their way onto the ladder? Having close connections with local colleges, we understood there was a real need for a programme that would bridge the gap between education and industry, giving graduates real experience and equipping them with the type of skills they'd need to actually find a job. And here we are. From a bit of whim, (and probably an excuse for a few nights out with the interns), Shift has evolved into a four month programme offering experience in a real studio environment where you'll be able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplined team, develop your portfolio and get the kind of experience that will get you a job. We offer a springboard to help you land yourself the kind of role you really want, because we understand how important it is to love what you do.
Interested? Well luckily it's that time of year again and Shift are opening their doors for a whole new set of interns who’ll be able to start in March. To learn more and find out how you can get involved, or just arrange to come in for a coffee (or tea) and a chat then email: [email protected] Or pop along to our open day on Wed 19th Feb.
And we promise that if at the end of the Shift programme, you still find the bright lights of London a little too hard to resist, we'll not hold it against you!
