About me

I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. My father worked as a printers mechanical engineer, and my mother a bank teller. From a very young age, I had a passion for drawing. In high school, I focused on Art and Woodwork, and discovered my interest in crafting objects with my hands.

After graduating, I started working as a cabinet maker for a local manufacturer specializing in custom cabinets and furniture. I spent a decade honing my skills there before eventually venturing out to establish my own woodworking business.

During this time I started dabbled in 3D modelling and rendering, using it to visualize my projects before clients would sign off the design. It added clarity and value.

After five years, the physical demands of woodworking began to take a toll on my body, preventing me from continuing. On the plus side my 3D rendering had significantly improved, catching the attention of a family member who worked in animation and design. I teamed up with them and began freelancing as a motion graphics artist, also a field I had not been involved in before. We collaborated on various projects for local markets in South Africa. One of the highlights being an animation for Jaguar Dubai, which was showcased on the Burj Khalifa!

In the story above I mention the transition from a woodworker to a 3D animator, at the age of 33. It's never too late to change your path!

What I love about my job.

I still get to build things and bring them to life, but in a virtual space. So, aspects of my woodworking and technical brain are still being used in my current 3D work. Ultimately, I was always wanting to be creative - making cool stuff you can be proud of, its as simple as that.
