About me
I am graduating from the University of Leeds this summer with an expected 2:1 in Fashion Design, in which I specialised in womenswear. A position within design would be my ideal job. I love every part of design from gathering research and presenting it creatively, to sketching illustrations and garment shapes before working with them using Photoshop and Illustrator. This is why in my spare time I am always designing and creating my own garments. I have also been chosen to create and showcase my own designs at a large charity fashion show in October, therefore I am currently working on these designs. However, although I am most attracted to design, I have a real love for every part of fashion. I am extremely eager and excited to begin my career within the industry, and I understand that this is unlikely to start with a job role which is purely design. I am therefore happy to carry out various roles, as I realise that working in fashion, especially at the beginning can be very hands on, which is something I love about it.
My year in industry includes a six month work placement in Sydney Australia. I was able to adapt to a new lifestyle completely unaccompanied, showing that I am confident and successful in integrating into new environments. Along with a small amount of design, within this placement I dealt with new ranges coming in and quality assessed them independently, as well as being in charge of all stock coming in and out of the studio. I also had to organise all of the samples for the new ranges, ensuring everything was being sent to the sample manufacturer and that the patterns were correct. Additionally, I spent some time liaising with factories in China, therefore I am confident and have experience within this area. I have had also had six months experience as a publisher at Trendstop during my year in industry. I thoroughly enjoyed this and was entirely responsible for all catwalk and tradeshow publishing. I know the problems that occur with publishing and have experience with figuring out solutions to these myself. I also enhanced and cropped images for the website along with many other duties.
I am a very sociable person who finds it easy to get along with all different personalities. This is evident in my ability to work as a team throughout university. I have done so in my studies and in my extracurricular activities which includes being part of the Leeds University Cheerleading Society. I took this on in my second year purely to meet new people and try out something completely new and enjoyed every part of it.
Although I am very sociable, in every job I have ever had I have conducted myself extremely professionally. I have had many jobs in customer service, from working for the Royal Bank of Scotland to working at various call centres in customer service as well as directly dealing with clients on a reception for a prestigious car showroom, working for BMW.
Any task in which I am asked to carry out in any job role, I do so to my very best ability, as I would describe myself as a perfectionist especially when it comes to my creative work. However, I have worked in many different environments and know that it is important in all to work quickly as well as efficiently, in which I am able to do so.
