How are you

My name is Vicky Yang and I'm interested in working as a graphic designer.

I have left Google a few month ago due to the discontinuation developments of various products within the Slide department. Having that said I'm excited to explore other career opportunities within the design industry.

After graduating Massey University in New Zealand with Second Class Honours in Visual Communication Design, I have decided to work overseas as I wanted to explore wider career opportunities. I was soon hired at Slide Inc's Shanghai office, working on the graphics for social gaming materials. As Slide Inc was a start-up based in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, it was a very fast paced working environment due to the weekly product releases and a lot of last minute changes. I worked on SuperPoke Pets and SPP Ranch, and as a graphic designer. These products requires me to work with various design programs proficiently, creating detailed illustrations, graphical and animated artworks as well as technical web developing skills. I remember on the night our team was pushing SPP Ranch, I stood by 24hrs with the team until the product was live.

As I continued to work at Slide, internet giant Google Inc acquired Slide. At Google I took on bigger responsibilities. I managed the production content and weekly statistic reports of the SuperPoke Pets with the Silicon Valley team, which requires good communication skills both verbal and written because of the time difference it was essential to communicate effectively through emails and video conferences. While I managed the Shanghai SuperPoke Pets team, it was important for me build a good relationship with the team members as I personally believe that is the key for maintaining a well oiled team. It was a challenge for me in the beginning because of the culture difference, but I soon worked my way around and overcame the challenge. Slide was a company that changes its goal frequently and during July 2011, Slide's CEO Max Levchin left Google, which resulted in ramping down all Slide products within Google.

Design is my biggest passion. As a graphic designer, I'm always looking for new skills to learn and pushing the boundaries of design.
