ABOUT
RISE.365 and Clear Channel approached us to raise awareness of the adultification of young Black girls, how they’re perceived by modern-day society and over-sexualised.
Their request followed the Child Q case, which sparked conversation in the UK when a young Black 15-year-old girl was illegally stripped-searched by the Met police in 2020. She was searched without an adult guardian present during her examination (whilst also menstruating) and wrongfully suspected of carrying cannabis. She attended a school in the borough of Hackney, the same one that many young girls from Rise.365. The issue was extremely close to home.
We were asked to deliver creative that was captivating, impactful, thought-provoking, and strong.
Our work involved creating a hero film that was then split into social media content and OOH work supported by Clear Channel, who donated free advertising space across locations in East London.
It featured thought-provoking imagery of young black girls carrying protest signs, sharing their aspirations and asking to be seen, loved and cared for. The message “Child Q is a child” aimed to show that young black girls should receive the protection and nurturing that every child deserves.
