ABOUT
Concept
EE has been lead partner of the BAFTA Film Awards for 29 years. The brief was to mark that partnership with something that demonstrated what their 5G+ network actually makes possible — not as a product claim, but as a lived experience. The answer: don't bring fans to the red carpet. Put them on it. Film lovers from Bath — the UK's Cinephile Capital, identified by EE's own streaming data — walked into their local EE store and were beamed 166 miles to one of the most watched red carpets in the UK. Life-size. Live. Holographic.
Execution
UNIT9 designed and built the end-to-end system — from the in-store capture setup in EE's Bath store to the holographic projection on the EE stage on the red carpet in London. Fans were streamed in real time with zero perceptible delay, appearing life-size alongside stars in what became the world's first broadcast-quality livestream over a cellular 5G+ network. No green screen. No tricks. Hosted by Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, the EE stage became the centrepiece of the evening — a live, unscripted moment where the technology disappeared and the connection between fans and their favourite stars was entirely real.
Results
166 miles felt like nothing. The holographic experience gave EE a landmark moment in their BAFTA partnership — demonstrating the power of 5G+ in a way no advertisement could. For the fans who walked into that Bath store, it was the night of their lives.
