About me

Attached is a copy of my CV, but I would like to briefly highlight why I am passionate about this work and give you a sense of what I could bring to your company.

Firstly, running a business has given me a wealth of experience and skills that I bring to any role. I understand the pressures of profitability, and the constraints of funding. I know the power of marketing, and the importance of how you present yourself and your business. Management has taught me to understand people; it has taught me how to communicate, how to create a team, but more, how to be a part of one. It's taught me responsibility; I know what it is to have people's livelihoods depending on you, and how much the details matter. Finally, it has also taught me durability: how to cope with highly stressful situations, while balancing multiple deadlines and responsibilities. Whilst running this business I have completed my degree and pursued freelance copywriting and proofreading work wherever possible.

I believe I can bring a lot to a company and a role like this one, but in terms of writing itself I just want to point to two primary strengths that I can offer:

Firstly, I am able to utilise my specialist knowledge of Applied Linguistics. Whilst studying Linguistics I learned tools and processes that allow me to analyse texts in a multitude of ways, bringing out strengths, weaknesses and biases. My understanding of the differing ways that language is used depending on its context - news media vs literature, conversational vs academic, etc. - make me a better and more thoughtful communicator. Linguistics has taught me many skills that are relevant to this role, and they allow me to approach language from a wider viewpoint and employ it with a deeper understanding.

Secondly, language is not just my work, it is my true passion; I believe it goes right to the heart of us. This is why, at my core, I am a writer, and I am able to use my creative lens on the commercial work that I produce. For me, marketing is about generating a genuine connection, reaching people through the tools of narrative and voice.

I can approach language from an academic and scientific angle, and I can approach it from an artistic and creative one. In my writing I utilise a balance of the two. I have an excellent knowledge of grammar, but I am also committed to the craft of writing and expression, to originality and flair. I can be the grammarian schoolmaster that you need in proofreading, but I can also see when the message and the style of delivery supersedes the rules.

I not only bring an advanced skill set to the position, but also my passion and ambition to succeed in this industry. I bring a creative mind, a positive spirit and years of business experience. I'm a very fast learner, a team player, and, through years of management I have proved that I know how to get the job done.
