About me

Editor October 2013-Present

hmv

I have been the Editor of hmv since its inception. In launching the website, I planned and designed all of its features, created the house style and set in place its weekly schedule.

I created the feature formats, adapted and refined a content strategy and created a template for the site which has proved to be a significant success with over eight million monthly users.

My role involves project managing publications; communicating with writers, publicists, artists, managers, and a plethora of other stakeholders; directing our social media outputs; and liaising with other areas of the business on a daily basis.

The role has expanded during my time as hmv. I now edit copy produced by in-house colleagues and freelance contributors, manage a complex content management system and our freelance budget and I have expanded our vision to include video content, and a podcast which I present, entitled 'My Inspiration'.

hmv now hosts a variety of content formats including interviews, features, news, listings and reviews. Each area of the website is also carefully monitored to ensure SEO optimisation.

I'm involved in the forward planning of our content calendar, and organisation of our various social media platforms which include Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

I also curate and assemble hmv's newsletter, which is sent to three million inboxes every week, and which I have overhauled in the last six months, after a period of review and analytical research. The new format has achieved record open rates and click throughs.

I worked across multiple social media campaigns in film and television.

I assisted in the creation of social media plans, campaign pitches and attended client meetings.

I managed the social media for Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing, The Host, Beautiful Creatures and set up the social media profiles for Peaky Blinders.

I wrote reports and collated data to report back to clients on how campaigns were progressing.

NME

I researched, wrote and edited up to 15 news stories a day for NME.

I handled interviews and wrote magazine content.

I also managed the site's social media presence during my time there.

During my time at NME, the Twitter and Facebook accounts saw the number of Twitter followers grow from 110,000 to more than 350,000 in just over 18 months, while the number of Facebook likes grew from 82,000 to 210,000 in the same time period.

As well as this, the number of unique users visiting the website grew to over 10 million per month during my spell with the website.
