Work Experience

June 06 Select Garden and Pets

I worked for one month as a cashier and general assistant. The garden centre was busy and whilst I was there I had to learn to be flexible and to be able to assist whichever department needed me. This helped me to develop my ability to work under pressure as well as enhancing my customer relations skills.

June - August 07 Hillview Commercial Property

June 08 I had the opportunity to assist with the letting and maintenance of commercial units. My responsibilities included interacting with the tenants as well as general maintenance and administrative works surrounding the process of leasing the individual units.

Key Skills and Attributes

I am competent with Computers and have a deep understanding of all programmes included in Microsoft Office. The University Degree I obtained has allowed me the opportunity to gain experience in methodical and logical approaches to all aspects of work. The degree has also fully developed my ability with the English Language and has proven both my motivation to reach deadlines and management skills of the work needed to be done.

I have always enjoyed working as part of a team and during my A levels I took part in a Young Enterprise group, where I learnt not only how to work as part of a team, but how to meet deadlines. We took on various projects, from selling sweets at lunch time, to selling glow sticks at local concerts and developing a school calendar with a range of photos from around the school. From this Young Enterprise group I gained an OCR Level 2 Certificate in Enterprise.

In the summer of 2004, I took part in a World Challenge expedition to Botswana and Zambia for a month, where I stayed in places like the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta and was lucky enough to go white water rafting down the Zambezi at the foot of Victoria Falls. The expedition taught me valuable skills such as money management, organisation and leadership.

Hobbies and Interests

Apart from cinema and music, I also have a keen interest in sports. Throughout my academic years I have taken part in sports where I have enjoyed football, rugby and hockey and have had the opportunity to represent my school or club teams. I have taken an active role within the Indie Society at Reading University and also written an article for a Politics Magazine published by my old School.
