"It's your turn to get a proper job," my wife said. "I've done my bit. I want to spend more time with the kids."

She's crazy, I thought to myself. Crazy to want to spend more time in this madhouse. But also to expect me to get a proper job.

I pride myself on being unemployable. The last time I worked full-ish time in an office was 1997. At that time I gave up my dream job as web editor and in-house illustrator/cartoonist at the football magazine When Saturday Comes because I wanted to write travel-memoiry non-fiction books.
