About me
My name is Tim Smith, and I've spent over the last twenty years engaging in the design and production of exhibitions for museums, visitor centres and heritage sites. The development of education based exhibitions has been my career. Starting as a graphic designer, I worked my way up to the creation of large visually based environments and exhibitions. This experience has given me a truly solid understanding of space and how public spaces are used, as well as the principles of interpretation as used in the creation of exhibitions for informal learning environments. My primary role as the lead creative in a wide variety of projects also led to experience in many forms of illustration with electronic and traditional media, and in the creation of strong visualizations required for fundraising efforts, and presentations to the public and critical stakeholders.
Throughout my career I have maintained that content drives the quality of a design, and a clear understanding of the message being conveyed is critical to the creation of visual and sensory experience for users. By immersing myself in the content and communication goals of each project, I'm able to more readily develop ideas and approaches that communicate clearly and creatively and are appropriately matched to the task at hand. My level of experience also gives me the ability to work concurrently on multiple projects and to manage budgets and timelines for each.
