About me

The extensive, varied experience I have gained in both my personal and professional life in the past ten years, allows me to apply for this position with complete confidence. The skills I have developed in my career to date, combined with my motivated, creative outlook ensure I can deal with the many challenges presented by this role. Currently I am working as the Head of Art and Production for an image production company called Juice Images.

On completing art and photography GCSE's I developed a passion for Visual Arts and Design and focused my efforts on achieving excellence in this field. In preparation for my degree I attained A-Levels in Art, Photography and Graphic Design at Cambridge Regional College, before embarking on a BA Honors Degree in Photography at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham. This was followed by an MA in Photography soon after. Since graduating in 2005 I have pursued a successful career as an artist, photographer and writer, as well as taking on several Creative roles and positions in arts education.

As Head of Art and Production, and in my previous roles as a Picture Editor, I have gained the specific experience needed to excel as an Art Director for the Cricketer. I have developed my skills as an art director and visual editor across print and digital platforms, in a variety of organisations and publications. My ability to pair a concept or article to a series of images has become clearly defined and succinct in its capacity to communicate complex themes and moods. As an avid reader of the Cricketer, I feel that I can produce a fascinating and compelling visual experience for the reader across a vast variety of subjects and topics. I am adept at working with an editorial team to produce a well-conceived body of work, also I am just as comfortable leading the way in commissioning and directing freelance artists and image-makers, as well as organising and setting up photo shoots and producing original bespoke imagery.

I feel that a comprehensive grasp of technology is essential in every industry, especially within digital and print design. I am fluent in both Mac and PC platforms, in particular Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. My previous duties in past roles have demanded a concise knowledge of more administrative programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. These skills are particularly useful in efficiently handling the range of Digital Asset Management duties I am currently responsible for overseeing.

I feel that the experience I have gathered over recent years endow me with what it takes to rise to the challenges offered by this position. I am at a point in my life where I have the ability, maturity, experience and desire to become a passionate Art Director and a committed member of the team at The Cricketer.
