ABOUT
"Our railroad is coming to the end of the line, tracks are covered by wind-driven sandy graves where sleepers resemble tombstones..."
Cape Town's Southern Peninsula railroad is in disrepair and heading toward an almost standstill –commuters often left high and dry. I shudder to think that someday this picturesque stretch of coastal track may become abandoned and forlorn.
I drive along her serpentine meander almost daily; I've learned every twist and turn as she hugs the seashore. My challenge is to photograph this track as if seeing it for the first time; I want to rediscover her nuances –depict her apparent 'ordinary' and make it 'extraordinary' to viewers!
I desire to bring about an awareness of the potential loss to Cape Town! I have a small collection of limited-edition Silver-Gelatin handprints with my curator in Milan. I remain dedicated to this unique endeavour which I began shooting way back in April 2015!
PS: "MAKING LIGHT WORK" –an in-house video offering glimpses of just how close the railroad hugs False Bay's glorious coastline.
