ABOUT
The Artist in B&W
"beautiful" - (adjective) as pretty as a picture; lovely, delightful, appealing, winsome; heavenly, stunning, arresting, glamorous, irresistible…
HEAVY INDUSTRY - that section of the economy involving factories, mining, oil and gas exploration, ominous machines moving on land, anchored at sea and transported by rail... From a photographer's POV there's not much deemed as 'delightful', 'glamorous' or ‘winsome’ about these scenarios – sure there are interesting aspects to it. Like weird floating docks, gigantic trucks, massive overhead cranes, frenetic dockside activity but ‘beautiful-on-the-eye', I'm afraid not? It's dusty, dirty and hazardous to camera gear most of the time/...
However, if by being selective in lighting, lens choice and how to shoot plus, applying simplicity to composition these otherwise 'heavy macho' locations may well lead to pleasing photographic results; so long as your 'treatment' is previsualised and you remain disciplined in your approach – hey, then I become all enthused to be out on location; things start happening, it's beautiful...
