About me
I am an award winning editor with advanced technical and creative skills across genres and editing suites. My natural storytelling abilities, slightly off-centre imagination and insatiable thirst to conquer any software makes me a powerhouse editor, who is also pretty fun to hang out with.
There is nothing I love more than to sit down and immerse myself in a narrative - real, imagined, believable or fantastical - it doesn't matter where it goes, as long as I can tag along.
I have always devoured all forms of stories: books, films... nosy questioning of family members, neighbours and strangers. This insatiable curiosity about the human, and not so human, condition led me to Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem where I completed a BFA in Screen Based Art. I was privileged enough to not only study the intricacies of filmmaking, but to also stretch myself into animation, photography, drawing, typography, photo editing and manipulation, compositing, to name a few. It is there I found a deep appreciation for the art of animation.
I also discovered a penchant, and talent for all things computer and software related. I was able to marry this more technical side with my overactive imagination through editing.
After graduating, I followed work opportunities back to South Africa, and found myself in the picturesque Cape Town. In the last 7 or so years I have worked on dramas, comedies, lifestyle shows, game shows, wildlife and documentaries. I have worked as an offline editor, an online editor, a colourist, a compositor - and have sometimes held all these positions simultaneously. I have been nominated several times for a SAFTA in Best Editing, and have been awarded the SAFTA Golden Horn for Best Editing for a Television Drama.
I love how editing is all at once collaborative and also very solitary. How you have to marry the many visions - the script, the direction, the actors' interpretation - with the actual footage that you have received. How nuanced the editing process can be, a split second slower or faster can change the entire meaning of a scene. The options are endless, and the power of the story comes from decisions made in the cutting room.
