About me

Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, raised in Gothemburg, Sweden, A small fishing village in the Icelandic West Fjords, and the mean streets of Breiðholt, Reykjavík. After trying his hand as a teen at caring for the demented elderly, strip club DJ'ing and working as a tomb-stone lettering artist, Sveinbjörn settled into graphic design in the late 90's. After short stints at various fashionable webdesign firms and boutique design companies he settled in at Jónsson & Le'macks in the company's infancy and stayed there until they had become the country's largest ad-agency. Sveinbjörn is responsible for the image of music festival ICELAND AIRWAVES, IT company EJS, and the graphic look of Kringlan, Iceland's more trendy shopping center, plus a roster of high-profile projects. Alongside the more corporate life of J&L Sveinbjörn has developed side-lines in various fields. His work in music graphics stands out, having designed posters for such acts as Franz Ferdinand, Nick Cave, Björk, Kraftwerk, The Pixies and others. An interest in typeface design grew into a career in 2010 when he got a commission to redesign the interface typeface for a large computer game, a project which is currently ongoing. He currently teaches Typeface Design to third-year students at the Icelandic Academy of art. He has been an active DJ in Iceland's night-life scene for more than a decade, and hosts a weekly radio show showcasing the latest sounds in electronic music, Funkþátturinn. A stint in magazine design for style magazine VAMM grew into a short career in journalism, and in the end he was hired as editor for the last few issues. He has played with a number of bands, most notably as the original cowbellist for FM Belfast.
