About me
Hello, I'm a freelance editorial art director, senior graphic designer, and educator. I specialise in the ideation, development, design direction, and management of illustrated visual culture (coffee-table) books, magazines, and publications, for global publishers and arts, culture, lifestyle brands.
I've developed, art directed and designed visual culture books for some of the most prestigious arts, culture, and lifestyle publishers in the world, including Thames & Hudson, The Smithsonian Institute, Dorling Kindersley, Bloomsbury, Telegraph Travel, and Quarto. My passion for visual culture is reflected in my diverse portfolio, which features titles on art, design, photography, fashion, travel, screen-printing, gardening, and the universe.
In addition to my book design work, I have extensive experience art directing, designing, developing and launching magazines for publishers and lifestyle brands. I was previously employed as a full time designer on Sleazenation, Esquire UK and acting art director of the Independent on Saturday Magazine. I have also art directed the launch of newsstand titles The Void, Disappear Here and consumer titles for Glenmorangie, Denison Yachting, Jazeera Airways (Ink Global), Wella Professionals, and Show Media (TagHeuer, Schweppes, French Connection).
I have a deep understanding of the editorial process, having authored, project managed, curated and art directed two visual culture art books published by Thames & Hudson. My first title, Collector's Edition: Innovative Packaging and Graphics, explores the latest trends in limited edition. graphic design for the music and book publishing industries. My second title, MIN: The New Simplicity in Graphic Design, documents the resurgence of minimalism in graphic design.
To celebrate the launch of Collector's Edition I curated the 'Cover Bomb' series, inviting prominent artists and musicians to create a unique artwork directly on the front cover. These one of a kind artworks were sold to raise funds of the Alzheimer's Society, with contributions from Sir Paul McCartney, Nick Cave, Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips), Stanley Donwood, Jessica Hische, Peter Gabriel, Alec Soth, Robert '3D' Del Naja, The Designers Republic and Oliver Jeffers.
My work has been recognised by the international print and digital design press, with features and interviews appearing in Creative Review, It's Nice That, Wired, Etapes, Eye, Pitchfork, Harper Collins, Varoom, and Creative Boom.
