About me
Stewart has been a Printmaker for over 30 years and was the 2024 Creativepool Artist of the Year.
In 2021, he was selected for the 16th Graphica Creativa Print Triennale, where the Jyväskylä Art Museum acquired his work. He also has work in the V&A print collection, and in private collections across the world.
Stewart was selected for the last eight editions of the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair [now Imprint], appearing in the Director's Picks in 2022 and 2024, and as one of seven artists chosen for the fair's 'Ones to Watch' selection in 2025. He has also made appearances at the RA Summer Show & NOPE, where he won the Great Art Prize in 2018.
He is continuing his Tree Portraits series from his Dartmouth studio, which began over six years ago in London. Initially inspired by the street trees in his neighbourhood, the conversation quickly became about our lack of connection with the natural world.
Stewart has recently created prints of Joshua Trees from the Mojave National Preserve, which were destroyed by wildfire, as well as those affected by Ash Dieback here in the UK.
Through selling archival prints of his piece 'The Old Man of Calke', he raised over £3,500 for the Woodland Trust. Recent prints from a Woodland Trust tour of Bovey Valley Woods were the main pieces in his successful Creativepool submission. More recently, he made time-limited, 15-minute monoprint studies in response to the energy and flux of the UK's rare temperate rainforests - 27 of which crowdfunded over £1000 for the local community interest company, Moor Trees.
His gelliplate techniques have their own chapter in 'Printmaking: a Step-by-Step Studio Guide' [Jenny Mason Gunning/Bloomsbury, 2026], and in Printmaking Today (Summer 2024).
After graduating in Fine Art at Farnham in 1994, he joined Artichoke Print Workshop, and then as a keyholder at East London Printmakers until 2019.
