About me

My journey as a creative began in 1994. During this time, I have taken the design lead on a variety of projects ranging from corporate ID and brochures to ads, websites and exhibition collateral, packaging and product development for a range of direct clients and sectors. I'm an experienced Art Director/Designer that's held positions as Head of Art and Lead Artworker. I adore typography and I'm passionate about design. I also produce headline copy.

In 2017, I returned to employment after 17 years running my own business, to enable me to focus on design and to experience the creative advantages of working in a busy office environment.

I accepted a role as Lead Artworker at Outdoor and Cycle Concepts Ltd, which includes brands Cotswold Outdoor and Snow & Rock. I managed a team of four staff and led the artwork team on key seasonal campaigns including Spring/Summer, Autumn/Winter promotions and the all important Christmas campaign.

In October 2019, I joined Dyson as a Middleweight Designer. I was involved in designing internal communications for a global workforce of around 15,000 employees. Projects ranged from creating collateral and trophies for an award ceremony to rebranding various Microsoft Teams websites. I also designed communications for corporate strategies and initiatives. Each design brief needed to be distilled to fully understand expectations and objectives, along with ensuring that what was being asked for was in-line with corporate guidelines.

I was made redundant in October 2020, as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

I have worked as a commercial photographer and commissioned for a wide variety of sectors including construction, industry, lifestyle and recruitment. I was able to use this skill on a range of promotions for O&CC.

Working for myself has meant that I have been involved in the complete lifecycle of the marketing communication, from initial idea to designing (for print or web), buying the print or programming expertise to distribution.

This experience enabled me to understand and manage commercial constraints and the importance of delivering the right product on time.

I believe the key to a conceptually strong and well-crafted communication piece is twofold: thoroughly understanding the brief and knowing the extent to which design adds value to the solution.
