About me
Dear Sir/Madam,
In my present role at the Coventry University Marketing Department I am the only Graphic Designer and I have sole responsibility for all design work in the Marketing Department. A major part of my role involves designing the twenty-eight page full colour newspaper for the Students' Union every month, as well as handbooks, student guides, media packs, flyers, posters, Freshers' promotional material and online adverts.
I regularly attend meetings with University staff, the student body, City Council and the Emergency Services, as well as a host of suppliers to produce the above mentioned material.
I work with suppliers to negotiate production costs and I am aware of the financial constraints I need to work to.
I also design our Annual Report which requires close attention to detail and I update the CUSU website. The production of the paper and handbooks often involve numerous short notice changes and require me to be totally flexible to achieve the deadline for printing.
The successful production of this material on time could not be achieved without first rate interpersonal skills. An important part of my role relies on the co-operation of others calling for persuasive skills, sound professional bonds and a willingness on my part to be ultra flexible.
I work in a Mac based environment using Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. I have just completed a course in Advanced Indesign. I also attended an introduction to Digital Photography course last month.
My post requires me to work alone, but also calls for the ability to work within and as part of a team. I research new ideas and opportunities and present these to colleagues and the Senior Management team. It is essential for me to share my knowledge with colleagues when choosing methods to market and design ideas, and in these instances excellent negotiation and persuasion skills are essential.
I have a responsibility to work to time constraints and produce high quality work. I work with the team to iron out problems and handle pressure very well . We all support each other and this a great help when things sometimes do not go to plan. I am also aware of the need to portray a positive image of the organisation both professionally and in my private life, something which is of great importance.
I believe that if I was successful in securing the post in your department I could make a smooth transition into the role with my experience at the institution, and I would welcome the opportunity to work towards becoming a valued member of your team.
