About Stephen
After being awarded an Upper Second Class Honours in Graphic
Communication at Loughborough University I went on to achieve a Masters
in Art & Design where I developed my skills in film production with
a focus on sport.
During my spare time there and during university holidays I also
worked on website and branding design for a variety of companies and
developed my own website for this type of work

Originally I worked on a Windows-based PC and developed a strong
knowledge of both hardware and software particularly having studied
computing at A-Level myself. During university I then developed
knowledge in using Macintosh computers and now produce all of my design
work on them.
During my Masters I worked primarily in film using a mixture of
cameras, from Sony Z1's to £50,000 high-speed Photron
cameras capable of recording up to 100,000 frames per second that I
used to produce my final piece.
Throughout my undergraduate degree, masters degree and with my
freelance work I have developed expertise in many software programs
including the full range of Adobe products such as Photoshop,
Illustrator, InDesign, Flash and Dreamweaver as well as video
production software such as FinalCut Pro, Motion, After Effects and
even a small amount of 3D developing tools on both PC and Mac.
I have always found I have adapted well to new software and picked
it up very quickly and I always strive to expand my knowledge in to
other areas of design and technology.
With my experience in graphic design and computing on both Windows
and Mac platforms I have a good understanding of digital practice such
as resolutions, output optimization for web and print and general
protocols when preparing and presenting work for cross platform and
cross medium compatibility. This includes the essential knowledge of
RGB and CMYK formats as well as the use of Pantone books for print
purposes.
As a graphic designer I am familiar with layouts, typography, image
editing as well as producing work that is suitable depending on the
clients situation and needs so that it fits the purpose appropriately
and does the job it is intended to do.
Having worked in a studio both as a student and during my time at a
small graphic design company I am used to working with others in a team
or on my own and I am confident about presenting my ideas to peers or
clients both visually and verbally. On top of this I was part of a
committee in one of Loughborough University's halls where I
firstly developed a magazine for the hall and also worked with the
other committee members to help plan activities for
‘freshers' and be responsible for them at the same time.
Recognised for my contribution to the Hall I was then offered a place
as an acting Subwarden in one of the international postgraduate halls
where I was responsible for maintaining the well-being of the hall,
acting as a fire marshal and even setting up a committee in the hall
since it had only just been built.
During my MA I developed my skills further in communicating having
been required to produce numerous presentations. I was particularly
complimented on my competency in presenting in front of others due to
my own confidence and clear communication skills.
The skills I developed the most on my MA however were in
organisation. This was not only organising myself but organising
others. To achieve my film shoots I had to organise models, cameras,
lighting and locations all by myself, which demanded a high level of
communication.
Further useful knowledge I gained was during a module orientated
around business where I learnt about intellectual property and design
rights amongst other useful business practices.
I have often been credited with being intelligent, creative and
energetic with a strong ability to work and communicate well with
others and constantly learn and strive to be the best at what I do and
produce the best. I therefore believe I would be a great addition to
any creative team.
