About me
I have been working in the music industry since December 1999. I began my career in the industry as a runner, for what was then GLR 94.9fm. After about 6 months working as a runner, and also covering some broadcast assistant shifts, I applied for one of the BA jobs available and was successful. While working as a BA at GLR I was given the opportunity to develop my skills, as we were only a four person team, across about 20 shows per week. During the time that the BBC re-branded GLR as LONDON LIVE, and then as BBC London, I was given the opportunity to produce a few shows, most notably house DJ NORMAN JAY'S weekly show 'GIANT 45'. This was good experience for me, as I had a great deal of involvement in the show. I remained at BBC London for about a year and a half after the re-launch, and then moved to the BBC's first urban music station 1XTRA. As 1XTRA was a brand new station, I was involved in the Grey, and White networking period of the station, and also the recruitment and training of some of the new DJ's. I worked at 1XTRA for a year and a half, and was then offered a job working for EAST WEST RECORDS (ATLANTIC REC.) which was a lot closer to my true interest as I had been producing music for a number of years now. Initially my main responsibility at East West, was to look after the street team, but was then quickly given the job as the urban department A&R talent scout. One of my main duties as talent scout was to listen to demos and find talented producers and artists. I also had to go through tracks made by artists already signed to the label, and give feedback to the A&R and artist. Whilst at EAST WEST I developed a list of all talent shows and competitions happening in the UK, and made a point of attending at least two a week. I worked a EAST WEST (ATLANTIC REC.) for about a year, but when the A&R that I was working for left, I decided to leave as well, and a close friend and I created Crystal Notes studios, and Black Rose Records, to put out music from the people we had been working with. I have been working at Crystal Notes studios since 2004 and now think that I have developed my skills, knowledge and contacts and am ready for a serious music job.
