About me

Although I have only
recently graduated from university, I have gained a lot of experience
within the field of graphic design. Throughout University I have had to
use a range of graphic design software, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator,
InDesign, QuarkXpress to meet the briefs that I was asked to complete.
While using these software's I have developed my skills and
knowledge and I am now comfortable in using a combination of software
to meet a brief. Personally as a Graphic Designer I feel that being
comfortable in using design software is very important. Just like a
builder needs to know how to use a saw and a hammer, a designer needs
to know how to use the tools of the trade to convert a visualisation
into a working design.

Since graduating from University
I have continued to use the skills and knowledge I have learnt to start
up my own graphic design business. I initially set up Golden Ink
Designs to channel my freelance work through a marketed and
professional company. Through this I have taken on many various types
of projects for a diverse client base. I have also gained business and
sales experience from winning and then working on these live
projects.

More recently I have been offered
a placement at Heart Print Management working as a Graphic Designer and
Artworker. My job role here involves designing email and marketing
campaigns for the company's' large client base. I oversee
the modifications made to artwork and ensure that all materials from my
campaigns are approved by the client and sent to customers by the
arranged deadlines. Before I started working here, the company were
looking to expand into the Asian wedding market. I have been given the
responsibility to manage the design and production for a new range of
creative design solutions for wedding card invitations.

Although this is a short-term
placement I have learnt a lot about taking orders, learning about
different types of stock, and negotiating with potential
clients. Most importantly I have learnt a
lot about how to communicate with clients and building a trustworthy
relationship. Before sending out
campaigns I have rung up clients to make sure that we have their
correct details and make them aware that they will be receiving new
promotions via email.

Print based Graphic Design is my
passion and what I love doing, but I am never scared to broaden my
horizons. I have taught myself how to design for the web using software
such as Photoshop and gaining basic knowledge in Flash. Using these
skills I have designed my own portfolio website and a website for
Golden Ink Designs.
