About me
Dear Sir, Dear Madam,
I was very excited to see your advert for the Graphic Designer position. Of particular relevance to your stated requirements in the job ad are, I hope, the following aspects of my background to date.
I have recently graduated with a BSc in Interactive Media Design, and also have just over 1 year of professional experience, which I gained working full-time for a design and print company and also on a small number of freelance design projects. I am currently working as a Graphic Design Intern with Libby London.
Degree in Graphic Design / Visual Communications + software knowledge
My experience to date has been across design and artworking of a range of different products for clients from a number of sectors, and includes flyers, posters, corporate and wedding stationery and packaging design, plus the design and production of a new PDF brochure for Kingston Business School. Throughout my studies I have had greater exposure to (and love of) the graphics side eg print and web front-end design, and am proficient in InDesign and Photoshop.
Ability to work under pressure / flexible and adaptable / articulate
All my work to date has involved the ability to juggle often competing demands and deliverables to tight time constraints - to fit in with clients' own time constraints, and while working for the print design and packaging company I got into a kind of 'rhythm' of juggling the creative and the production/delivery aspects. It also taught me the degree of unpredictability of working in the design field, from last-minute spec changes to re-scheduled priorities to problems with production, and I enjoyed and was happy to do what it takes working with colleagues to deliver and work around the day-to-day issues that came up. On the communications side, from day one all of my work involved liaising with clients directly, so I learned quickly the diplomacy and approach that this can involve to tease out and interpret their requirements at the start and as we go.
I very much hope that my profile will prove of interest, and thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully,
Simon Spence
