About me
Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm writing to apply for the Project Assistant role currently advertised on Creativepool, as I believe my positive attitude and enthusiastic, intelligent work ethic would be a great fit. I'm looking to relocate to Manchester and I was intrigued by the versatility and teamwork this role demands, especially as I have considerably honed these skills in my current role.
I work as a Subtitler for Ericsson Broadcast and Media Services in London, where I create and edit subtitle files for pre-recorded programmes due for imminent broadcast. My work demands editorial solutions on a very strict deadline, whilst keeping a sharp eye on the crucial administrative and technical aspects of timing and play-in cues.
Previous to my work in TV, I worked in publishing as a freelance writer, which taught me the vital self-discipline I needed to organise a professional business schedule; liasing with a wide range of contacts to arrange interviews and negotiate fees. My portfolio is online at - it includes experience with Future Publishing's SFX magazine and Zest Media London's range of Absolutely titles.
In my first year as a subtitler (an industry I hardly knew before I started), I have volunteered to test new software, exponentially increased my rate of work and been praised by external reviewers for the quality of work I've achieved on high-profile programmes.
As a result of my rapid progression as a subtitler, I can expect, on a typical shift, to be assigned several short-notice programmes that will be broadcast in the next few hours. I'm frequently chosen to head up and co-ordinate sub-teams to work on longer programmes, because of my reputation for quick turnaround and consistent, reliable content.
In my previous role as an Assistant Manager at Wine Rack Ltd, my duties were to anticipate day-to-day running; stock-taking, sales tracking and security issues. My role was equal parts leadership and support, which taught me a great deal about managing my time effectively.
A prime example would be every delivery day, where I would be stacking heavy deliveries around a cramped shop, checking incoming items against a checklist and serving a steady stream of customers. I soon learnt to co-ordinate my team quickly and effectively, leaving as little as possible for the even busier night shift to worry about.
It's this strong, self-disciplinary work ethic that I feel would be a credit to your company. I manage my time with careful judgment, so as to be as supportive and effective as possible.
I would greatly relish the challenge this role promises to be, and I look forward to hearing more about it. Thanks for taking time to consider my application.
Sincerely,
Simon Moore
