About me
I have recently graduated from Birmingham City University with a 2:1 in Media and Communications. Throughout my studies I carried out placements at various media organisations, where my writing skills were tested and developed, as well as my knowledge of social media and the use of social media by businesses and organisations.
My roles at Heart FM, BBC Radio Suffolk, Beacon FM and Vixen Radio, involved sourcing original stories, carrying out interviews with strong public figures as well as editing and script writing.
I have experience writing features for an online audience, I contribute a monthly column to MTV Sticky, a website for young people, that discusses current issues and trends - please feel free to contact me if you would like to view some of my work. I also write my own blog, which led to me being nominated for Digital Journalist of the Year at the 2010 Guardian Media Awards.
On leaving University I secured the role of Communications Administrator for a large retail company, where I was required to update the company website, manage their social networking sites (this included building a community of followers), writing copy and press releases as well as helping to organise large scale events. I thoroughly enjoyed this role, as I was able to see all the skills I have acquired throughout university and various work placements put into action. I was able to merge my talents as a journalist with the knowledge I had gained from working in a small PR department.
Following on from this job I moved to Italy for three months, to work in Florence for Eurotraining Services, an Erasmus company. My role as Communications Admin Intern involved answering phones, assisting the company manager, translating documents from Italian to English, and communicating with the office in England. This was one of my biggest challenges I have encountered, so far throughout my career, learning a new language and a new culture. This experience gave me more confidence as an individual, and in my abilities as a communicator and writer.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile, I look forward to hearing from you.
