About me
Shukri Toefy is an entrepreneur, film producer and co-founder and CEO of FORT - an award winning independent, creative content and production network, with head offices in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Shukri holds a degree in Law and Politics from the University of Cape Town, an Executive MBA from the UCT Graduate School of Business, and has the distinction of being a University of Oxford Saïd Business School "Aspen Scholarship" recipient.
The fundamentals of Shukri's approach to business was galvanised by the founding of FORT, a business created as much to pay back student loans, as it was to empower and drive change.
Over a decade later, in 2017 Shukri launched a pioneering shared prosperity model in which FORT donated 1% of the company to its community trust, Hold The FORT, as well 10% to its employee fund.
As the founder of The Rainmakers Journal, a thought leadership platform, Shukri's passion for non-traditional sources of knowledge has been crafted into a series of projects.
Unwritten, a film under the Rainmakers Journal by Shukri Toefy, has enjoyed critical acclaim. The film has won at the Amsterdam Film Festival and Hollywood International Documentary Awards (HIIDA), and earned official selections at the Balinale International Film Festival, Roma Cinema Doc, and Largo International Film Festival.
More recently, Shukri launched the #CreateMovement campaign. The campaign aimed to decolonize and create a more equitable African Creative Economy. The movement received continent-wide support.
Following this, Shukri was recognized as a Young Global Changer, and invited to the G20 Global Solutions Summit in Berlin - marking a shift from business leader to global policy leader.
Shukri is recognised as a Top 40 CEO by Under40CEOs, and one of Fast Company's Most Productive People in 2016. He serves on a number of boards, including the Advertising Media Association of South Africa, and is profiled in various publications including Marketing Week, Screen Africa, GQ, Fast Company, and Forbes among others.
