About me
Dear Sir/Madam
Re: copywriting role ref BSMLM9498
I am extremely interested in obtaining this copywriting position. I believe I possess the qualifications and special skills you need to be a great addition to your team.
My CV reflects my interest in a change. I have spent 30 successful years as a self-employed singer, songwriter, self-help author and music publisher sharpening my skills in project management and communicating with the public. Due to a health problem I'm no longer able to speak or sing. So now my focus is in other areas of business and in 2011 completed a 3 month copywriting course online with distinction and averaging an A- grade on my assignments.
Your job description mentioned the need to be able to craft long copy. I love the written word and crafting creative copy from minimal input for a variety of mediums. I'm a published self-help author (Ebury, 2010). I have followed this up by gaining further valuable experience working freelance for clients, including SEO pages for Mothercare (via Stratton Craig) and crafting proposals and press releases for Artists and Designers. I'm also currently in a temporary traineeship position with Oxygen Creative Services, who are a Devon and Somerset based PR firm. I have been gaining both online and offline experience with them for a variety of clients, from charities to manufacturers with technical briefs, as well as direct marketing leaflets and proposals. I have uploaded a pdf to go with this application but much of my work has been online, for instance here

I realise that the post is based in Warwickshire. Having met them initially at their Somerset offices, I now work for Oxygen remotely via email, and usually discuss briefs using instant messenger so that we can discuss all aspects of what is required. This has worked out very satisfactorily for them. I am Somerset based and because of my physical limitations, it may be best if I worked largely remotely for this post. However, I'd be delighted to travel to meet you (I communicate in person by using handwritten notes, or by attaching an extra screen to my laptop facing my interviewer so that they can see my typed responses to questions) and would also be very happy to do a work trial, if required.
I am eager to combine my varied writing skills with my knowledge of appealing both to clients and customers. As you will see from the career summary section in my enclosed CV, I can bring a wealth of transferable skills and qualities to any copywriting role you might offer. I am talented, results orientated, and used to working to deadlines. As a formerly self-employed businesswoman with a proven ability to troubleshoot, I can perform under a minimum amount of supervision, and demonstrate a high degree of initiative and good judgment, but also relish working as part of a team.
I'm attaching my CV as requested. I can be reached at to arrange for an interview at any time convenient to you. Please contact me if you would like any further information.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely
Sheila Chandra
